What the role is:
As a GCP Architect you will act as a subject matter expert in Kubernetes, Google Kubernetes Engine and associated technologies delivering both pre and post sales technical consultancy to our customers. As a predominately client facing role you will have proven skills in working with customers to design and implement modern, scalable GKE and Anthos based solutions understanding the role containers and microservices play in an Application Modernisation Strategy.
You will:
• Have responsibility for influencing and shaping GCP solutions primarily focused on GKE and Anthos
• Provide opportunity-specific Technical Assurance, Quality Assurance, Governance & Customer
Satisfaction of pre and post sales consultancy engagements
• Attend customer meetings to present solutions from a technical and implementation approach
• Highlight any technical risks that may impact the success of the solution for client‘s
Ideal candidate:
• Google certified in one or more areas preferably Professional Cloud Architect and/or Certified Kubernetes Administrator or Application Developer
• Subject matter expert in Containers and associated tools such as Docker
• Thorough understanding of Kubernetes and Google Kubernetes Engine and have successfully designed, delivered and deployed these services into GCP production environments
• Have experience of Istio and Service Mesh
• Have experience with Logging and Monitoring GKE via Cloud Operations or other Container monitoring solutions (Prometheus and Grafana)
• Have familiarity or experience with Anthos and running GKE on multiple platforms. This would include Anthos Config Management, Anthos Service Mesh and Anthos Migrate
• Have familiarity or experience migrating applications into GKE and the design and considerations required (cluster sizing, auto scaling etc)
• Understand GKE best practices around networking, security, state management and storage
• Have worked with one or more customers in the delivery of GKE services in GCP and have either led, mentored or managed other data engineers in delivery
• Have experience of deploying applications to GKE with Helm and Helm Charts
• Have familiarity of deploying GKE though DevOps tooling such as Terraform or Anthos Config Management
• Have experience delivering GKE services in an agile approach using sprints, backlog items, stand ups etc. and have experience with tools such as Jira
• Understand the importance of data security and compliance and how to build GCP/GKE elements to adhere to standards such as the CIS benchmarks
Skills:
Mandatory
• Experience or at a minimum a detailed working knowledge of the following GCP Product areas: -
o Compute Engine
o Docker
o GKE
o Anthos
o Istio
o GKE Cluster and Workload Management
o Google IAM and RBAC for Kubernetes
o Google Container Registry
o Helm
o Cloud Operations with Prometheus / Grafana
• Must be familiar with DevOps and Agile methodologies
• Microservices architecture and design patterns / principles
• Cloud Provisioning tools such as Terraform, Deployment Manager etc.
• CI/CD pipelines and tooling (Jenkins, Spinnaker etc)
• Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef etc)
• Source Code Version Control tools such as Git
• Development/Scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Ruby, Python or Node.js
For the right candidate full training and enablement will be provided to address any gaps
Nice to Have
• Working knowledge of the following GCP Product areas·
o Service Accounts and Organisational Policies
o Serverless (inc Cloud Run)
o Cloud Composer
o GCP Foundations
o GCP Networking and Security
• Familiarity with other Container orchestration tools such as Redshift, Tanzu, OpenStack and Rancher
